Handling severely overweight patients is a big challenge with many aspects. Caregivers need to focus on multiple conditions. When handling a severely overweight patient caregivers often face a big dilemma. On one side, the caregivers wish to conduct a caring, ethically correct and qualified care. On the other side, the caregivers wish to make sure that the work situation is proper and safe for themselves.
It is important that caregivers are prepared for handling the severely overweight patient. Not only in relation to the actual physical moving and handling but also in relation to also being able to help and care for a person who has a misuser behavior. It can be difficult to understand what causes overeating to such an extent that a person ends up severely overweight. However, in spite of this the bariatric patient needs professional treatment and care equally to other patients in need of help.
We use many resources trying to prevent severe overweight and on the possibilities of treating and reducing bodyweight. However, there is an equally big need for focusing on how we optimizes processes regarding bariatric patients in the healthcare system – both for the best interest of the caregivers and the severely overweight patients.
Vendlet wants to take part in optimizing the processes and moving and handling of the severely overweight patients. One way we do this is by trying through a series of articles to highlight different areas, which are important when meeting and handling the severely overweight patient articles and by participating at conferences as speakers and lecturer.
